Thanks for bringing up this important topic. Only makes people suspicious of wrongdoing when information is kept ‘undercover’. The residents of Perry, and Iowa, deserve answers.

In a growing stable of outstanding columns from Dave this one stands out as it is deeply affecting, brilliantly constructed. A must read on many levels.

Curious who might be pressuring Ritchie NOT to release the report?

Could be! And that’s the whole problem with secrecy. We’re left to invent our own reasons.

This is absolutely a matter of public concern and there is no reason for the full report to be kept secret. Perhaps the DSM Register, other Iowa media and the Freedom of Information Council should all sue to demand release of the report.

Sorry for the delay. Along with Randy Evans article, I wrote about this on my substack, with an additional perspective. ("Because we are all in this together"). Greater attention to being transparent will also enable the rest of Iowa to respond to the incomplete response to the shootings in Perry. If the Georgia shootings and Presidential assassination attempts should direct Iowa leaders focus on mental health resources. However, Iowa schools, AEA's and mental health centers need financial support from the state particularly in mental health resources, to prevent further tragedies.

I am waiting for candidates this campaign to propose enacting red flag laws, increasing school resources, repealing the 2024 AEA law, and expanding mental health services. Iowa has healthcare gaps, especially in rural areas. Candidates need to speak louder in their calls for more taxpayer-funded mental health care access.
