No way to prove it, but I personally feel the flawed poll results actually boosted MAGA turnout and Trumps's margin.

Someday there will be a plaque at Trump's Presidential Library that will give credit to ABC, CBS/Paramount and the Des Moines Register for funding the library. Watching him work for all these years leads me to think this may be part of a bigger strategy. I just completed Andrew Jackson's biography. The similarities in policy, delivery and tenacity are unmistakeable. I'm enjoying your opinions Dave, making me think.

Thanks, Kurt. Appreciate your feedback. If there’s a bigger strategy, I think it’s attempting to intimidate journalists from doing critical stories in the future. Not sure what else it could be.

One of the hallmarks of fascism is getting the guardrails of democracy to "obey in advance." Those guardrails in our country are failing as seen especially at the NYT. Here's to hoping that the DMRegister backs Selzer for as long as it takes to defeat this monstrous power grab.

Thanks for the short and concise distillation of this outrage, Dave.

Point of clarification, Chris. Selzer has obtained legal help from the organization I mention in the column. The Register is paying for its own legal counsel but doesn’t have to defend Selzer because if the other group helping her.

As usual, Dave, right on target. Trump is nothing but a bully and the DMR has made the right decisions here to challenge the bully. What he's gotten away with in terms of his treatment of the media is appalling. Please keep up the great analysis of why countering him is imperative for the future of free speech in the U.S.
