There’s no “honeymoon” with this so-called administration—just a nationwide hostage crisis, with the rest of us tied to the tracks while Trump barrels forward in a runaway train of ego, vengeance, and chaos. The only thing he’s leading is a scorched-earth retreat from decency, stability, and reason. It’s well beyond sickening!

Bill, the appellate court ruling yesterday in the Abrego Garcia case is a spectacular bit of reasoning, and called on the administration to do the right thing “while there is still time.” Meaning, before he destroys all that we hold dear. An inspiring and at the same time chilling ruling. Worth reading, if you’ve not done so.

A remedy to the "Trump problem," albeit just a partial remedy, is collective action ... by Congress. But that's not going to happen until enough members of Congress truly believe that their political survival is in serious jeopardy from angry voters, and that risk is greater than the risk from an angry Trump. Large public protests are good for educating the public and members of Congress, but the point of the spear should always be directed at getting Congress to change the situation and not for them to just throw up their hands and say they are powerless.

BTW, there's no need to remind me that powerful people in Congress support Trump's authoritarian agenda. We need to make that group a *minority* group in Congress -- THAT should be the goal.

I plan to quote Laura frequently! That is a more couth reaction to the crazy than my typical, “What the f*ck?!?”

I had to hand it to her. She sometimes stumbles, quite innocently, into a memorable line. But yours works, too.

Hopefully in 2 years we can flush out a number of these fearful Republicans.

Currently they fear Trump, they best start looking down the road -- this RINO is not going to vote for them!

Between our outgoing governor and our local Congressional rep, our chances of getting any action from them appear to be Slim and Nunn...but our speaking up and out has to be unnerving to both Nunn and deer in the headlights Grassley. Here's hoping a few more Murkowski's exist among Senate Republicans

Breakfast is a no Trump zone but it is hard to keep silent but my wife and I try to just think on something else like planting potatoes or planning when to plant out the tomato starts. Damaged people from childhood never leave their childish ways. Some become politicians to try and compensate. Usually works poorly. The incompetence, greed and self hatred might safe us!

It is indeed unfortunate that we have seen media outlets, prestigious law firms and universities buckle to the threat of the chief executive. At this time we cannot rely on the Congress to curtail these activities which makes them accomplices. When the Supreme Court granted immunity to the President that allowed him to act with impunity. So the checks and balances envisioned by the founding fathers is not currently in process. I share two quotes from Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King about the present moment:

“In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends"

“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.”

Heather Cox Richardson, a sage voice amidst the chaos says, "This is the moment for older white Americans to step forward."

The ball is in our court. Resist, resist resist!

Steve, so much blame rests with the Supreme Court. From Citizens United to overturning Roe ti the immunity ruling. John Roberts has no one to blame but himself when Trump attacks federal judges.

So many Americans WANT to resist. The question is how. How to do so in an organized, effective way?

I wonder if one or more of those new Salvadoran prisons will eventually have to cater to the more 'talkative' seniors among us? What a sight that would be, arresting citizens for speaking their minds. Anyone up for a bumper sticker that just says Muskrat? Or maybe parse it into 2 words?

Thanks Dave. 100 days in and there will be hundreds of protests. Plenty of opportunity for people to stand up, speak out or protest against Musk/Trump. To respond to your reader about coordination, some of us are working on that. Until then, let me offer a sampling. I am reading about the history of civil rights era protests in our country--there were organizational issues and competing factions.

I am participating in the Ames Indivisible protest tomorrow. https://www.mobilize.us/indivisible/event/765626/

There are Indivisible events all across the state and nation.

Some--but not all protests are associated with the 50501 Movement, meaning 50 protests, 50 states, 1 movement More than 400 events are scheduled -nationwide- t for April 19, including rallies, protests, nature cleanups, and food drives.

I have taken the freedom, joy, kindness, generosity and beauty of the USA for granted, I guess for obviously too long. This is not the world I have ever experienced. Friends in the arts community have lost their jobs due to funding cuts, I have personally lost convenience benefits that enhanced my quality of life (many others have lost absolute necessary benefits), I, and millions of others, worry about receiving my Social Security check that pays my bills, including rent. It is my money. I worry about the immigrants in the USA that make our nation stronger. I am disabled and cannot protest on the steps of the Capitol, I feel so helpless, embarrassed and damn well frustrated by this mess. At my best, I believe we can survive and this will all pass. I grow more pessimistic by the day. I cannot believe I just wrote this. Onward we go with resolution and a smile.

Ron, hang in there. You are far from alone. And although I like to be optimistic, too, there is absolutely no guarantee that it will all pass and we’ll be okay. It’s going to take work, resistance and fighting.

Dave - Excellent article, but I believe you missed including a very obvious “what’s gone wrong” in Trump’s first hundred days.

- ABC acquiescing to a $15 million dollar fine over a slightly wrong statement by

Stephanopoulos.

- White House taking control of who gets into the press conferences.

- The ongoing lawsuit with “60 Minutes” over their right to edit interviews - and threats to CBS over “60 Minutes” stories that make Trump look bad.

- Disparaging any reporter that asks a tough question.

All are forms of censorship and a total disregard for the first amendment.

What an Easter read. 1)The stock market is stable, prices are falling and so is inflation. 2) billions of dollars of waste in government and employees who can note “5 things they did last week”. All good. 3)) constitutional due process is for US citizens 4) Biden pardoned more criminals ahead of them being charged and tried. What a chick s_it move by a dementia patient. 5) if universities don’t want billions of our tax money in grants - clean up their progressive act
