Iowa nice is synonymous with Iowa white. They want to do only what is minimally required to receive Federal $$$. What does that tell you. Rural manure.

Thanks for sounding the alarm. No surprise given the far right governor.

Thanks for the article, as frustrating as it is to hear. I didn’t know so many boards were so lopsided, but not surprised.

Thanks for informing us. Both non-party and Democratic voters should be outraged. What recourse is there other than ballot box?

Elections have consequences! The ballot is where it must happen.

It’s obvious! DEMS need to RUMBLE Iowans to VOTE. So get going NOW. Encourage friends and family to VOTE!

Thanks Dave. I didn't know about the make-up of those boards! I hate to use the phrase but this sounds like organized crime taking over the State of Iowa. They rule by cutting out any opposition in any way they can. I agree with Beth, let's get something organized to encourage more voters to take part in their society as a whole. Apathy is what's holding back Democrats.

Beth and Andrea, I suggest you contact your county party and see about getting involved in a neighbor-to-neighbor program where you live.

Lack of balance causes bad decisions at many levels. . The Regents struck out in four different areas, harming Iowans.

1. Freezing out input from others, including dissenters, results in worse decisions for Iowa, like holding tuition costs down.

2. Limiting DEI activities will result in bad decisions by all on campus, by restricting opportunity to have dialogue with people other than those belonging in the majority demographics of our state.

3. The Regents fail to recognize that society suffers when an institution precludes participation and input of any minority based group. The failure of the Regents to offer any replacement with this blanket removal of DEI efforts just demonstrates their failure to understand the benefits of inclusionary policies. 4. (an extra strike) Also, with dissent on other campuses, Regents had the opportunity to address how campus can safely promote dialogue. Regents struck out.

Ralph, the decision goes against what universities are supposed to be about: EXPANDING students’ horizons, not restricting them. This is a completely political decision. True, it was forced on them by the GOP in the legislature. But the Regents sure fell right in line.

Dave's response to my comment is on point. The Regents should have stood up and chosen a different way of expanding horizons and exposing students to different viewpoints, cultures and ways of thinking. Iowa businesses prefer employees who have a better understanding of the diversity of the world and an improved ability to interact and work with people who are from different backgrounds, or hold different opinions. In the past, the Iowa Business Council has taken proactive stances on diversity-hopefully, they may yet enter into this debate..
