Thank you for this clear-eyed Iowa view of of our national crisis, Dave. Our Iowa Republican leaders are a danger to our democracy as they follow Maga extremists into the rabbit hole of lies and deception that they put before us to try to hold onto power. We need to set aside fear, and listen to voices like yours.

I couldn’t agree more. Well said, Dave

Well said. It is still a long road to go, but our system of fairness worked. Thanks for always sharing the facts and the truth with your readers. Truth, facts and CHARACTER still matter as does integrity, and being a positive role model. As one leader I respect said in 2015, "Our children are watching."

Spot on, Dave. So now Trump isn’t just running against Joe Biden, he’s running against our entire system of government. Like a fool, I keep waiting for responsible Republicans to demand that Trump step aside. So far, crickets. I guess there aren’t any.

Thanks, Steve. It’s disappointing , but not surprising, how GOP leaders are falling in line.

So well written, Dave. Thanks!

Curious how this is being received where you live, Doug.

We really haven’t talked with any locals about it and we’re out of town this weekend. Overall, most of our friends are routinely appalled by Trump and the damage he has cause do.

We’re hearing more here today, Dave. There have been some outlets here saying that the guilty verdict will bring him more support, not less. There always has been much confusion here about the Electoral College. It’s inconceivable to them that a person can win the popular vote and still lose the election.

Possible, I guess. Hard to believe someone would be persuaded by a conviction. It certainly might harden his core support. Not many people left in the middle these days.

You've said it all. Except, I thought I'd feel satisfied when this happened, but I'm not. I want more. This "man" frightens me and I want our system to keep him from ever ruining our country. He has already told us exactly what he wants to do to bring down this wonderful country. We must be vigilant.

There’s more to come, of course, but Trump and the courts seem to be succeeding at delaying until after the election. It’s so obvious to me Trump is running primarily to insulate himself from all these indictments.

Thanks for this Dave. The verdict was a relief but with so called leaders like Reynolds and Bird, we Iowans do have a long road ahead.

Great points Dave. The right wing media is, to me, mostly responsible. I was listening to WHO radio this morning and the local host focused on whether or not Republicans should do the "same thing"--weaponize the justice department against Democrats when they get back into power. Ed Tibbitts has a great point this morning--note that none of the Iowa republican delegation said Trump was innocent. https://edtibbetts.substack.com/p/iowa-gop-reaction-to-trump-verdict

Bob, Trump accuses his opponents of all the bad deeds that he has already done or wants to do. He is the guy who weaponized the Justice Department and wants to further that should he win. He is the guy who pardons convicted criminals who support him. He is the guy who lies with frequency. He is the guy who tried to “rig” the 2020 election results.

Yeah, thanks. I should have clarified. Yes, it's Trump. But then the right wing media tells the same lies and props him up. And WHO radio and Fox news helps blast the lies that are dividing our country. And, as far as I can tell, there have been no consequences for WHO locally. Even some of their ads are ridiculous. Steve Bannon crap, gold, etc.
