Mike Giudicessi -- an MVP of the Des Moines Register's glory years, for sure. And as Dave Busiek points out in this terrific column, Mike has served all Iowa media as well as he served the Register in his early career years. His insights and advice have been invaluable in sticky situations. His encouragement of reporters in rigorous pursuit of the truth has been inspiring. Plus, Mike is a fine & fun guy!
Thanks for taking the time to give a shout out for a good guy. Thanks for reminding readers: “When journalists lose their rights,” he says, “the public loses their rights.” When journalists lose their rights, we lose our democracy and society loses.
Extraordinary story, Dave, about a brilliant attorney who defended our family’s newspaper. I don’t know what we would have done, where we’d be, without Michael Giudicessi. I’ve been asked what is the key to prevailing in a libel suit. “Make sure Jared Strong is the reporter on the story and Michael Giudicessi is the attorney defending it,” is my forever answer to that question.

This is a great story! I hope Mike is able to inspire other young journalists.
