I have a big smile on my face this morning after reading that Kim Reynoldscrap finally had her day in the toilet bowl with Trump. I couldn’t be any happier. Now on to dethroning Rhonda Santis, the man who will chase Disney to another state and destroy Florida tourism.
I enjoyed reading your review of this current tiff between Trump and another of his minions. It will be interesting to learn who right wing Iowans revere more.
If Iowans have to choose between Trump and any locals, they will always choose Trump. Remember when they used to say "Democrats fall in love but Republicans fall in line." Well, Republicans broke the rule and fell in love with Trump.
One more thought…Iowa is perceived by many political hacks to be the last chance to detail Trump from the nomination (and probable general election loss). Maybe toss New Hampshire in, too. If Trump wins Iowa and New Hampshire, most insiders think the race is over, nobody can stop Trump. But if Iowa shows anyone can beat him, the race is less certain. I’m no Kim fan but maybe she’s taking one for the GOP team here.
Rod, that's an interesting thought. But I really think she's simply doing what any Iowa governor should do - remain neutral through the caucuses. It's Trump who perceives everything - even principled stands - through his own egotistical lens.
Spot-on as usual, Dave. Kimmy has many fans here, so Trump did himself no favor. Polls never tell the whole story, which 2016 proves. His big lead will dwindle; every time he shoots off his mouth he shoots himself in the foot. And Jack Smith is coming after him like a dog.
Given Trump’s popularity with Republican voters in Iowa, is there really a danger of him losing to DeSantis or anyone else in Iowa? I’m not talking about a “surprising strength” second or third place, I’m talking about beating him. Is that going to happen when Trump’s 30-40 points ahead of the rest of the field? And is he going to have to spend a dime campaigning here?
If an Iowa Republican is going to be forced to choose between Reynolds and Trump, which one of them are they going to choose? I can guarantee it’s not going to be Reynolds, and it wouldn’t even be Grassley.
I think you're spot on with that. In the end, Trump is going to, worst case scenario, finish second and he'll win the nomination, without having to spend a dime in Iowa. (Worst case scenario being death or insulting the entire state like Trump just did with Nevada.) He doesn't need any of these suck-ups to help him at all.
Even though I covered a few of these caucuses back in the days when I was a journalist, I think the entire Iowa Caucus circus has outlived its usefulness and we are seeing its death throes. It will be better for all concerned when it is done and we can concentrate on making this state a better place.
I did some sort of livestream training setup for his first campaign, basically as a favor. I never turned in the invoice because I just felt uncomfortable about it. They were training people to act the exact opposite of Trump. Kind and forgiving. The person I worked directly with gave me the exact feel the blog suggests. He just wanted to use the Trump brand to move up. Regardless of the contradictory behavior.
The smart money is investing in popcorn for the upcoming feeding frenzy as Republicans begin eating their own. Should be quite the show. By the way, pass the popcorn. The show has begun. (rated R).

Once again, brilliant Dave! And a true feel good column! Thanks for proving your insight!
Loved the column, Dave! Reading this, paired with my coffee, made for a great early morning - thanks!
Thanks, Dennis. A pleasure meeting you last week!
If you can think of any individual who has done more to harm the United States than Donald Trump, let me know.
There isn't one. Former President Scumbag is truly America's Worst Villain.
What kind of upbringing did Covid Kim have to make her think it was okay to be a sycophant for criminals and fascists?

Thanks, Dave. To quote Pete Seeger “When will they ever learn?”.
They never seem to...
Very well said. How do we ever recover from this group?
Another good article but I’m stuck on the last line- “handing Iowa to Desantis” ugh
Julie, I’m not sure there are any great alternatives even farther down the list.

Jason, the usual wisdom is there are two or three tickets out of Iowa. My guess is both Trump and DeSantis will live to see another day.
