Just a quick observation.... per your reference to Robert Leonard’s observation on DeSantis: (“...he came across as stale, disgruntled and small.” “A man this petty and cruel shouldn’t be anywhere near the Oval Office, especially behind the desk. We’ve already tried that.”) I immediately thought of Kim Reynolds and her obvious quest to be, dare I say, Mrs. Madame Veep on the DeSantis Ticket. Stale, disgruntled, small, petty, cruel.
Once again, Dave hits the nail on the head. I hope he will next explore the terrifying polls that indicate former President Trump, the criminal that he is, along with a host of other immoral qualities, has captured the Iowa Republican electorate. How has "Iowa nice" turned into "Iowa cult?" And it would be helpful, as a part of this expose', to focus on our Senators and Representatives and Governor and Republican legislators. In large measure, we have them to blame for this miserable candidate. It is impossible for every one of them to not know that Trump is the biggest threat to democracy in our lifetimes, and yet they continue to endorse a rotten to the core rapist impostor. What has happened to Iowa judgment and reason and loyalty to the Constitution? Have they all forgotten that he can "grab 'em by the [genitals] and [have his will with them because he's rich and famous]"? Maybe Monday's caucus will reveal a better Iowa.
I began last year shooting video of Nikki Haley in Nevada as one of the first Iowa visits by potential GOP presidential contenders. And I'll finish my year long video project Monday at the caucus. I love political reporting. But even I've had my fill of presidential speeches, debates, distortions and outright lies. So I skipped these competing events. But thanks for the summary. Democracy demands full access by the public to important trials. And I'm encouraged that this happened.
As a journalist (retired), I value media's contribution. I have other-wise intelligent friends that have little or no idea about Donald Trump's legal problems, ethical voids and outright lies. Why? As you point out, Fox News/conservative talk doesn't cover them or at least, cover with any depth. At times I've wondered how Fox was covering a major Trump fiasco and tuned in to see talking heads thoughtfully discussing Hunter Biden, the price of gas and eggs or Hillary Clinton's horrific inaction with Benghazi. My buddies don't know so they tend to believe accusations are "trumped up".
It is disgraceful that Trump has skipped all the debates. What is he afraid of? And the fact that Fox Entertainment gives him an open mike hour at the same time is bogus.
