Dave—One of the unfortunate consequences of the turnover of staffers in many newsrooms is the loss of institutional memory. KCCI is an exception where there have been veterans on staff who recall incidents such as the one that explains why a telephone pole has ISU colors. Another behind the scenes piece that rewards the reader. Thank you!

Thank you for writing about this. I will never forget when this happened. My best buddy and I were out for our early morning jog around the neighborhood when we were stopped in our tracks by the scene, which was mostly covered from view. But we could see that something terrible had happened. I never pass by without thinking about this tragedy. Later, when my grandson became a cross-country runner, I started praying for safety of all traveling athletes. Rest In Peace, ISU runners.

Thanks Dave. And thanks to Tim Lane and others who worked to make sure their would be a commemorative plaque. And a small plane pilot friend remarked at the time that the pilot was trying to both avoid hitting a house and to get his wheels as close to the street as possible.
