A political podcast for the holiday weekend
How will dismissal of criminal charges affect Trump's behavior moving forward?
Happy Thanksgiving. No column this weekend. We all need a break.
But I pass on this latest edition of the Iowa Down Ballot podcast, recorded earlier this week at the Culver Center at Simpson College in Indianola. I moderated a discussion with excellent panelists Bob Leonard of Deep Midwest: Politics and Culture, Doug Burns of The Iowa Mercury, Laura Belin of Bleeding Heartland and Iowa Politics with Laura Belin, and Dr. Kedron Bardwell, a political science professor at Simpson, who brought some surprising results from a survey of Simpson students that shows a definite shift in their political leanings.
Enjoy time with family but maybe sometime this weekend, while on the road or taking a walk, give a listen to the podcast.
A reminder that the Iowa Writers’ Collaborative is holding a holiday party for paid subscribers on Friday, December 13th, 5-8 pm at the Harkin Institute near the Drake University campus. Come meet the writers like Art Cullen, Laura Belin, Bob Leonard, Doug Burns, Rekha Basu and many others. There will be a short program, plus appetizers. Paid subscribers to the Iowa Capital Dispatch are also invited, with editor Kathie Obradovich taking part.
We had a great time last year meeting subscribers and having lots of good conversations, so please join us if you can.

I don’t think I heard any mention of the money in politics?
If only the Democratic Party would do more to support our candidates maybe they'd do better in the elections. We had a couple of Democratic candidates in Story County that weren't supported at all and the Party did nothing to get them in the news. At the same time, the incumbent didn't even try to run, no debate, nothing. But he won. We need someone in the party with media experience in order to get things rolling.
